Why the need for the Freelap Timing System?
The Freelap Timing System would be used in the SFCHS Weight Room year-round in our Strength & Conditioning course and could/would occasionally be used by sports teams, if so desired.
The idea that I have behind the use of this timing system is to “record, rank and publish” the results of our speed based work and workouts. The idea behind the “record, rank and publish” method is to promote competition amongst students and competition within one’s self, to help create the best version of themselves that they can be.
The exercises that we would test would be the 10 meter fly, 20 meter fly, 40 yard dash, 10 meter starts and various other exercises that we could come up with. We would test a selection of these exercises once a week (one test a day – each test on different days), record the results and then publish them on a leaderboard in the weight room for all students to see. Then the next week we do the testing, the idea would be that students would try to better themselves and try to beat their old record, or their peers records. (Results that are not flattering, or students that would rather not have their times public, would not be published, in order to protect those students. Those times would still, however, be recorded and used as motivation to improve upon for those individuals).
The system could also be used extensively during track season to monitor progress during practice.
